Hundreds of scooters lie deep in the river Rhine.

Rentable electric scooters are now a common sight in most european cities. While their ecological efficiency when in normal use is largely debated, we can be sure that when destroyed they end up similar to any kind of electronic garbage. Rental scooter companies commonly do not care about their own scooters, neither working or broken, going as far as destroying hundreds of working vehicles when they aren't needed anymore.

Proper recycling of electric vehicles is hard and expensive. Objectively the better option is to repair and reuse them - which is not simple when dealing with rental vehicles that are bound to a provider company and secured against being claimed by an individual. It gets even harder when the provider company does not want to cooperate with recycling charities. [TODO: ref]
